Cape Town - The decision by the National Energy Regulator of South Africa (Nersa) to provide a licence for a new petro-chemical storage and offloading plant in the port of Cape Town is similar to Eskom’s decision to mothball its power stations, said Chevron.
Chevron, which runs a large oil refinery and storage facility in Milnerton in Cape Town, said it is difficult to accept the regulator’s decision “given that their reasons provided have a number of significant flaws”.
Nersa, which recently granted Chevron’s rival Burgan Cape Terminals - a new black empowerment company - a licence to operate the storage terminal, has now provided reasons for its decision.
