Cape Town - It appears there will be no rolling of heads at Eskom, despite assurances by Minister of Public Enterprises Malusi Gigaba to the contrary.
Gigaba made utterances of heads rolling at previous media engagements, mainly in relation to Eskom keeping its building programme on track.
In April 2012, Gigaba said “heads will roll” if the Medupi power station did not meet its deadlines set for December this year.
On Monday Eskom announced this deadline will now not be met, and that the project would be delayed for at least six months.
On Wednesday Gigaba said there will be no “rash decisions taken”, probably in reference to the axing of senior employees.
He said rash, uninformed decisions may make the situation worse.
“We have however appointed a consultant firm to look into the matter. Further delays must be prevented, and lessons must be learnt from the Medupi issue,” Gigaba said.
Eskom will also be consulting its contractors to discuss how to prevent further delays and speed up the build programme if possible.
