Johannesburg - At least 157 of Shell's 230 retail sites in Gauteng have run out of stock of one or more grades of fuel, Shell SA said on Monday, as talks continue between striking unions and the National Petroleum Employers' Association to find a solution to a wage dispute.
"Fuel distribution from our Alberton depot remains constrained following a 12-hour stoppage on deliveries over the weekend due to incidents of intimidation and violence," said spokesperson Elton Fortuin.
He said while daytime fuel deliveries resumed late on Saturday with the support of the South African Police Service and additional security arrangements, night-time deliveries remain on hold for the time being.
"The backlog caused by the stoppage and restricted distribution hours would continue to impact product availability at our retail sites across Gauteng," he said.
Fuel distribution in most other provinces has largely been maintained.
