Work resumes at Medupi

Johannesburg - The Medupi power station in Lephalale, Limpopo, was temporarily closed on Wednesday after construction workers went on strike, Eskom said.

"Construction workers had a protest action this morning and Eskom sent home the workers for safety reasons," spokesperson Hilary Joffe said.

"No injuries or damage has been reported. Eskom is working with contractors to restore the operations as usual."

Joffe could not comment on the reasons for the protest.

In September, about 80 workers contracted by Murray & Roberts Construction and Grinaker-LTA damaged several vehicles and some equipment at the power plant.

The workers went on protest because the contracts of around 600 local employees were due to end.
