Pretoria - The chief executive of Transnet said on Thursday that the company expected national manganese production to triple by 2019.
Brian Molefe said at a news briefing that Transnet expected South Africa's production of the industrial metal to climb to 16 million tons by 2019 from 5 million tons currently.
President Jacob Zuma said earlier at the same event that South African manganese production was seen rising in anticipation of a global shortage.
