Koeberg unit shuts down

Johannesburg - A unit at the Koeberg Power Station in Cape Town shut down automatically on Monday because of a fault, Eskom said.

"The automatic shutdown was triggered by the protection system on a motor due either to mechanical or instrumentation failure," Eskom said in a statement.

"The shutdown of the unit was unrelated to the oil leak reported recently along the Atlantic coast to the south of Koeberg."

There was no interruption of electricity supply as a result of the shutdown of Koeberg Unit Two.

Koeberg Unit One was fully operational, said Eskom.

It was investigating the cause of the fault.
