At total of 3 516 Toyota Avensis petrol-driven cars will be affected locally by recalls by the Toyota Motor Corporation.
The Toyota Motor Corporation announced on Wednesday that it would recall more than 1.3m vehicles worldwide to repair a potential problem with a fuel pipe and a high-pressure fuel valve.
According to Leo Kok, corporate communications manager at Toyota South Africa Motors, the problem had been noted in 0.009% of the cars.
He said the petrol pipe might in time develop small cracks, while the petrol pump valve that regulated pressure could eventually start to leak.
The affected Avensis models were those sold domestically between 2006 and 2009.
Kok said the parts for the servicing campaign were being flown in and owners would shortly be contacted to have the problem fixed. He said if owners were concerned, they could contact their closest Toyota dealer in this regard.
In all, 245 000 Lexus cars were being affected by the international recall. These vehicles’ fuel sensors would be checked in the campaign.
According to Lexus South Africa spokesperson Patrick Gearing, 1 443 IS250 Lexus models manufactured between 2006 and 2009 would be affected in South Africa, although not all necessarily had a problem.
Lexus was contacting owners to have the requisite repairs done, he said.
