Johannesburg - Mafika Mkwanazi will remain the chairperson of freight logistics group Transnet despite talk of looming board changes, the minister of public enterprises said on Tuesday.
"Mr Mkwanazi remains the chairman of Transnet and (it was determined) that he would continue to execute his fiduciary duties to the best of his abilities until or unless cabinet decides otherwise," Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba said.
Last week, Gigaba unexpectedly named a new chairperson to state-owned power utility Eskom and there was speculation that a similar change was imminent at Transnet.
Gigaba said other non-executive directors of Transnet would also remain in their positions until or unless the cabinet decided otherwise.
