Johannesburg - Gautrain operator the Bombela Concession Company tabled a new pay
offer for employees on Tuesday, trade union Utatu-Sarhwu said.
"Although the Bombela offer still falls short of our
members’ most recent demand, it is a significant move in the right direction,
that includes a guaranteed 13th cheque for all employees," Utatu-Sarhwu
general secretary Steve Harris said in a statement.
"On the strength of that... we will be recommending
that our members accept the offer."
During wage talks, Bombela kept offering a 6.4% increase,
which union members rejected, said Harris.
On Friday, the company upped the offer to 7%, including a
13th cheque and additional benefits.
"We are more comfortable with this... (and) we are
asking our members to seriously consider what's on offer."
Harris said the response from the union's members would be
available on Monday, July 30.
The union was formed in June from the merger of the United Transport and Allied Trade Union and the SA Railway and Harbour Workers' Union.
