Johannesburg - Around 1200 Food and Allied Workers' Union (Fawu) members employed by SA Breweries (SAB) [JSE:SAB] in Gauteng, North West, and Limpopo will hold a mass meeting in Pretoria on Thursday, the union said.
The gathering would take place at SAB's Rosslyn plant in Pretoria, Fawu general secretary Katishi Masemola said in a statement.
The purpose of the meeting was to give feedback to members on interactions between Fawu leaders and SAB directors on Wednesday night. Fawu's strike began two weeks ago.
A new mandate would be solicited at the meeting with a view to settling the strike by Fawu members employed by SAB within its beer division.
Fawu president Attwell Nazo and Masemola would address the meeting.
Fawu is demanding a nine percent salary increase across the board, and equal participation in the board of trustees of the provident fund and medical scheme through union deployees.
SAB has offered a seven percent average wage increase with performance-related pay.
"This will increase the average monthly pay for shift workers by R1 196 to R18 283," SAB said.
SAB was granted a Labour Court interdict on Wednesday against intimidation and violence by striking workers. The order requires strikers and the union to comply with picketing rules.
According to the company, striking workers went on an illegal march to its customer interaction centre in Randburg, Johannesburg, on Tuesday.
Marchers reportedly carried weapons, disrupted traffic and drank alcohol in public.
Last week, the court issued a brewery-specific interdict to SAB's Chamdor brewery and depot, west of Johannesburg, following violence outside the brewery and depot.
On Tuesday, Fawu announced its intention to intensify its national strike action. At the time, Masemola estimated that 450 workers took part in the march to Randburg, which he described as a success.
