Eskom: Power supply still tight

Johannesburg - Eskom is making progress with its planned maintenance programme but the supply system remains tight, the parastatal said on Thursday.

The power supply capacity, including open cycle gas turbines, to meet Thursday's peak demand was 33 075 megawatts (MW) while the demand was forecast at 31 613 MW, Eskom said in a statement.

Peak demand for the rest of the rest of the week was forecast at 31 026 MW on Friday, 29 150 MW on Saturday, 28 897 MW on Sunday, 31 799 MW on Monday, 31 720 MW on Tuesday and 31 624 MW on Wednesday.

"We urge all South Africans to partner with us to keep the lights on and save 10% of their electricity usage," Eskom said.
