Johannesburg - Eskom CEO Brian Dames has been appointed to the executive committee of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), the parastatal announced Tuesday.
His nomination was confirmed by the WBCSD annual general meeting, Eskom said in a statement.
The council is a global business association with about 200 members and focuses primarily on sustainable development through the provision of business leadership.
Eskom has been a member of the council for a number of years, according to the statement. It is one of the only two African members of the council.
Dames says he is "delighted" to be nominated onto the executive committee of an organisation that has played an important role in shaping Eskom's strategic direction.
Membership of the council is by invitation of its executive committee to companies committed to sustainable development and to promoting the role of eco-efficiency, innovation and corporate social responsibility.
"The WBCSD works with its members to develop and communicate the views of business and potential solutions to the international energy and climate challenge," Eskom said.
