Dames: I just need a rest

Johannesburg - Eskom CEO Brian Dames resigned because he needed to rest, the Sunday Times reported.

"I just want to have a rest...[The job] takes a lot out of you. Really it never ends. I normally say to people that I just want a life," Dames told the newspaper.

"I want to pay attention to my family. They have sacrificed a lot."

Dames told the newspaper there was "never a right time or a wrong time to quit". He said he did not have another job lined up.

He dismissed claims that his resignation was due to tension with Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba.

"I've never had a difficult discussion with him."

Dames will step down on March 31, 2014 after 26 years at Eskom. He was appointed CEO on July 1, 2010.
