Crunch time for PetroSA

Johannesburg - Certain procurement procedures at PetroSA were inappropriate, an investigative team from the department of energy has found.

The Central Energy Fund (CEF), which owns PetroSA, said on Wednesday the team was tasked with investigating the "robustness" of the procurement systems of companies that reported to the department.

The team "unearthed inappropriate executive override of internal control systems at PetroSA".

CEF Mandla Tyala said this meant proper processes and procedures were not followed with regard to tenders and contracts at PetroSA that exceeded R5m, and which were not related to day-to-day operations.

The team's report also made allegations against current and former senior officials.

CEF chairperson Sankie Mthembi-Mahanyele said the report was being studied by the holding company's board.

"The investigation is continuing. Corrective and decisive action will be taken once the final report has been issued," she said.
