Johannesburg - A wage dispute in the coal sector has been referred to the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration, the CCMA said on Wednesday.
It said the National Union of Mineworkers, Uasa and Solidarity referred the dispute on Tuesday.
"The CCMA is now in the process of appointing commissioners and identifying dates to set down the matter in consultation with all parties."
Solidarity said on Monday that coal sector wage talks stalled when it declared a dispute with the Chamber of Mines
General secretary Gideon du Plessis said in a statement the chamber presented a revised offer of a seven percent wage increase, with a seven percent housing allowance increase.
Solidarity had asked that the housing allowances for all workers in the sector be brought into line with the allowance offered by Anglo American Thermal Coal, which offered the highest.
"The dispute regarding the inequalities in the housing allowance has already been dragging on for eight years and must be resolved during this round of negotiations," Du Plessis said.
"Solidarity indicated that a revised offer that is in line with workers' inflation burden must be made and that an additional increase must be offered as compensation for the housing inequalities."
