Somerset West - A change in the executive leadership of AAT
Composites will come into effect on April 1, 2014.
Dr Holger Friehmelt will assume the role of managing director of the South African composite materials manufacturer, whereupon Sias van der Westhuizen, the company’s current managing director, will
take up new professional pursuits.
Van der Westhuizen has been a member of the AAT Composites team since 1987, and was involved in the company’s founding.
“After more than 25 years in this exciting industry, I now look forward to a completely new challenge. By appointing Dr Holger Friehmelt as the new managing director, I am confident that we have found an ideally suited successor,” he said.
Under Van der Westhuizen's leadership the company’s turnover has steadily risen from R50m in 2004 to an estimated R260m in 2013.
Holger Friehmelt will be joining AAT Composites as a recognised aviation expert and a specialist in the field of lightweight design.
The company’s earliest products included composite-material bicycles, satellite dishes. It now specialises in the manufacture of composite materials for aircraft interiors.
Since 2004, aircraft seat supplier Recaro Aircraft Seating has been its majority shareholder.
AAT Composites currently employs more than 400 people.
