Johannesburg - The iPad 2 is going on sale in SA only three months after its predecessor was launched locally.
The next version of Apple’s popular table computer will be available in SA stores from Friday.
It has the same price tag as the iPad 1 – between R4 399 and R7 599, depending on the version.
The first iPad was launched more than a year ago in the US. The distributor of Apple products in SA, the Core Group, previously said it has no control over when Apple decides to launch its offerings in SA.
Core spokesperson Taryn Hyam says the iPad 2 will phase out the older iPad.
She said the group still has the first version in stock, but it won’t be replaced when sold out.
Sales of the first iPad in SA have exceeded expectations, Hyam said.
All stock was sold out within one weekend and the group had to move quickly to import more.
