Johannesburg - Mobile operator Vodacom (VOD) on Tuesday afternoon announced that its services in parts of Gauteng have begun returning, following an earlier "problem".

The group earlier apologised for the problem affecting voice and SMS services in parts of Sandton, Midrand and south Gauteng.

"There is a problem with voice and SMS in parts of Sandton, Midrand and south Gauteng. We're working on it," the group said on its official Twitter account.

However, shortly after 17:00 local time, Vodacom said: "Gauteng voice and SMS services coming back on line. We're bringing it back in stages - may take a little longer in some areas."
