Cape Town - Minister of Trade and Industry, Rob Davies announced the names of companies, projects and individuals that will vie for top honours in the dti Technology Awards 2013.
Winners will be announced in a ceremony that will be hosted by the department of trade and industry (dti) at the iNkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre in Durban on October 17 2013.
The purpose of the dti Technology Awards is to raise awareness on the benefits of using technology to improve the competitiveness of enterprises.
The awards recognise individuals and organisations that contributed towards technology development and innovation in South Africa.
They are also aimed at inspiring and encouraging creativity and technological innovativeness amongst business people by rewarding those that make use of technology to advance their business.
“They will inspire their peers and many young people who will view their impressive technological inventions at the exhibition,” said Davies.
The finalists in the category for small companies are TMI Consultancy (t/a TMI Dynamatics), Tugo Builds and SKT Marketing (t/a Softcopy).
In the category for medium companies the finalists are Sintrex Integration Services and Globetom and in the category for large companies the finalists are Magus, Dynamic Commodities and Rapid Mobile
Data Entry Terminal.
The two finalists in the Emerging BEE category are Korwe Software and Tugo Builds.
The finalists in the category for incubator of the year are SmartXchange, Furntech and the Seda Construction Incubator.
In the category for fastest growing incubatee the finalists are Eco Furniture, Walda Group - SESUCI and ZJ Africa, while the finalists in the category for best performing quality intervention are Thabong Bakery, Nomcebo Consulting Enterprise and Lawrence Global Manufacturing.
The finalists in the category for best performing technology transfer intervention are Excellence Motor Trimmers, Lawrence Global Manufacturing and G&T Autobody.
The finalists have all been supported by the dti’s three technology programmes, namely the Support Programme for Industrial Innovation (SPII) managed by the Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), the Technology and Human Resources for Industry Programme (THRIP), managed by the National Research Foundation (NRF), and the Seda Technology Programme (Stp) managed by the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda).
