Cape Town - Suspended Telkom [JSE:TKG] chief financial officer Jacques Schindehütte is expected to defend himself in a disciplinary hearing that will start on Thursday, the parastatal announced in a statement.
Telkom said he disciplinary hearing is confidential and therefore cannot comment on the process until the final outcome is decided.
Schindehütte, who joined the state firm in August 2011, was suspended in October last year, pending an investigation into allegations against him that came to the board's attention through a whistleblower.
An external law firm investigated these allegations and presented it to the Telkom board.
"The board considered the report, applied its mind and took professional advice."
"In October last year the board determined that the fairest way forward was to provide Schindehütte the opportunity to defend himself in a disciplinary hearing."
Telkom said it is committed to ensure that the hearing is conducted in a fair and dignified manner.
On Tuesday, the state firm said that Schindehütte must repay an interest-free R6m loan, which he acquired to purchase shares in Telkom.
Telkom said that due protocol was not followed for the loan, resulting in the transaction being null and void.
"The board cannot and did not ratify the granting of the loan."
Telkom said in order to correct the situation; it was obligated to claim the loan back and that it was confident that Schindehütte will repay it.
