Cape Town - MTN Group [JSE:MTN] on Wednesday announced that Zunaid Bulbulia would take the reigns as chief executive officer of MTN South Africa from Karel Pienaar.
Pienaar’s appointment as group chief strategy officer will see MTN’s Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) and Strategy functions being separated, with Khumo Shuenyane focusing on M&A and international business development.
Bulbulia, chief financial officer (CFO) of MTN SA since 2005 and acting chief business officer for MTN Business, is a founding member of MTN and as chief executive officer (CEO), he is tasked with bolstering MTN’s competitive position in the South Africa market.
As group chief strategy officer, Pienaar will be responsible for overseeing MTN strategy across its 22 operations.
Also a founding member of MTN, Pienaar has served the group in various leadership roles, including as group chief technology and information officer and CEO of MTN Nigeria.
MTN group president and CEO Sifiso Dabengwa said both Pienaar and Bulbulia were experienced executives who understood MTN’s business priorities and challenges.
Both Pienaar and Bulbulia will serve on the MTN group executive Ccmmittee.
