Media24 merger gets the nod

Johannesburg - The Competition Tribunal has approved a proposed merger between Media24 and New Media.

The commission had recommended that it be approved.

In its assessment, the commission concluded that although both Media24 and New Media operate in the contract publishing and consumer magazine markets, it was unlikely that the transaction would lead to a substantial lessening of competition.

Media24 operates as a publisher, printer and distributor of various forms of media and is ultimately controlled by media giant Naspers [JSE:NPN].

The target firm in this transaction, New Media, mainly operates a contract publishing business in which it develops and publishes items such as industry specific publications, in-house publications, e-newsletters and corporate websites.

* Fin24 is a Naspers publication.
