Johannesburg - Media24 CEO Francois Groepe said on Friday he had quit his post to lead the acquisition of the firm's school book publishers Via Afrika Education.
Groepe had worked at Media24 for eight years, three as CEO.
"After nearly eight happy and successful years in various senior management roles in Media24, the last three years as chief executive officer, I am excited to embark on this new challenge with the Via Afrika Education management team with whom I worked especially closely over the past year," to told staff in a statement.
He said he had concluded that Via Afrika Education - the only 100% South African educational publisher - would be best positioned as a standalone business.
Esmare Weideman, editor-in-chief of magazines, Huisgenoot, YOU and DRUM, will become CEO on May 1.
Jakes Gerwel, Media24 board chairperson, said Groepe was "exceptionally well qualified to lead the new group.”
Weideman said she was “surprised but delighted” by her appointment.
