London - Britain’s opposition Labour Party said it would ask parliament to support a motion calling on News Corp to withdraw its bid for pay-TV operator BSkyB in the light of a phone-hacking scandal.
The vote would be non-binding but would raise the pressure on News Corp head Rupert Murdoch to drop the bid, which has been passed to competition authorities for review.
"I call on people of all parties to support this motion tomorrow so that the House of Commons can send a clear message to Mr Murdoch about what needs to happen," Labour leader Ed Miliband said in a television interview.
"The best way of achieving our objective, which is to make sure that this bid cannot go ahead while the criminal investigation is going on, is for Mr Murdoch to withdraw the bid."
