Johannesburg - Allied Technologies (Altech) on Tuesday announced the appointment of former Telkom [JSE:TKG]acting CEO Jeffrey Hedberg as Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Altech Group from 1 July 2011.

Hedberg will report to Altech Group CEO, Craig Venter. He will be responsible for the operational leadership of Altech's 33 companies with the group executives of the Telecommunications, Multi-Media and Information Technology (TMT) divisions reporting to him.

"We are delighted to welcome Jeffrey to Altech and we are confident that his international experience will be of significant value as Altech gears up to take a global leadership position in the TMT sector," said Venter.

Hedberg said: "Altech is one of the leading ICT companies in South Africa, with a proud history of innovation, outstanding talent, customer commitment and an enviable business record. It is a great honour to join its leadership team and have the opportunity to build on its success."

Hedberg was acting CEO of Telkom until 31 March, 2011.

He is acting in an advisory capacity at Telkom until the end of June. Hedberg joined Telkom in November 2009 and was CEO of its Nigerian subsidiary Multilinks for five months until he was asked to return to become acting CEO in July 2010.

From 2006 to 2009 he was CEO of Cell C.
