Nairobi - Kenya IT Week 2013 kicked off on the 3rd of September and incorporated the East Africa Outsourcing and IT Leaders East Africa Summits.
The highly anticipated event proved to be an industry success.
Over one hundred senior executives representing the region's largest enterprises and government organisations gathered for the official opening conducted by Tejpal Bedi, chairman of Kenya IT & Outsourcing Services (Kitos).
Bedi discussed the current climate for BPO in East Africa and the potential for growth in the region.
East Africa is setting itself up as a BPO hub of choice due to the ongoing introduction of data centres as well as significant investment in human capital and infrastructure development.
Event organisers, Kinetic, in partnership with Kitos and the Kenya ICT Authority (formerly the Kenya ICT Board), brought together industry experts from leading organisations to address topical industry challenges.
The event indicated that industry networking is high in demand within the region.
Kenya IT Week provides a platform for the region's IT leaders to interact and this year was no different.
Technology workshops addressed key issues, including the changing scope of customer service and the next generation of data integration.
This enabled attendees to discover new enterprise solutions and connect with industry providers and peers.
Industry providers demonstrated the latest enterprise advancements through focused presentations that covered the central themes on the event agenda.
These themes included the impact of BPO Operations in the East African region, shaping BPO strategy, enterprise mobility and cloud computing and IT and the enterprise.
According to the organisers the 2013 Kenya IT Week served to encourage the development of a sustainable IT industry within East Africa by promoting the region as a favourable BPO destination.
This year's event allowed attendees to gain insight into the practical steps needed to expand the IT talent pool of East African countries to meet increasing demand for IT enabled services.
