Cape Town - Endemol, creator of international hit TV reality show Big Brother, on Monday announced that it has purchased a one-third stake in Israeli commercial broadcaster Reshet.
The Reshet deal, which is subject to regulatory approval, is Endemol's second acquisition in Israel this year. In April, the world's largest independent production company bought Israeli independent producer Kuperman, which it relaunched as Endemol Israel.
Its deal with Reshet to create, produce and distribute new multi-platform content should lead to increased investment in local shows, reported Financial Times.
Endemol CEO Just Spee told the Hollywood Reporter that Israel is one of the world’s most innovative and creative markets; "delivering exciting and successful formats with international appeal".
He said Reshet is a leading broadcaster in the region and joining forces enables Endemol to significantly builds its capacity to create new original, multi-platform content with global potential, "which will be shared among Endemol’s worldwide creative network”.
Endemol has around 90 companies in over 30 countries, including South Africa.
