State-owned drug firm established - Zuma

Cape Town - A state-owned pharmaceutical company has been established, President Jacob Zuma announced on Thursday.

"The company will participate in the supply of antiretrovirals to the department of health in the 2016/17 financial year," he said during his State of the National Address in Parliament.

"The white paper of National Health Insurance was released in December, aimed at improving healthcare for everyone in SA."

On HIV, Zuma said the minister of health would soon announce a major prevention campaign, especially aimed at the youth.

A lot had been done since the 2009 policy to help people live longer and healthier lives, Zuma said.
