Johannesburg - Former Tiger Brands chief executive office Peter Matlare has been appointed as a deputy chief executive by Barclays Africa Group.
The bank said on Friday in a JSE SENS announcement that Matlare will join the lender in August 2016.
He has been an independent non-executive director of Barclays Africa Group since December 2011 and will now take on the responsibility for the bank's Africa operations, and becomes an executive director of the group.
Matlare, who holds a BSc (Hons) and MA, was at the helm of Tiger Brands Limited from 2008 to 2015 and oversaw it expansion into Nigeria and Kenya.
He held senior roles with Vodacom Group Limited, Vodacom South Africa, the South African Broadcasting Corporation, and Primedia.
Barclays Africa said David Hodnett will retain his role as deputy chief executive and finance director.
He will focus on the South African banking business, which includes retail and business banking and the corporate and investment bank.
