Cape Town - Fin24 was contacted on Wednesday by two frustrated users, who had problems with their Absa [JSE:ASA] Forex service being off-line.
"If you have any money coming into or going out of SA the transaction will not be completed," wrote a user, who has a personal account with Absa.
"They claim that they have technical difficulties and are unable to process any Forex transactions. This has been going on since Monday and there is no end insight."
Another user with a business account said Absa had been giving him the "run-around for days".
"They promised it would be sorted by 16:00 on Tuesday and still nothing has been done," he said.
Absa told Fin24 early on Wednesday afternoon that, following a system upgrade, ODP Transact, a key component of processing cross-border payments, experienced an outage and has impacted clients.
"Absa regrets the inconvenience caused and would like to assure the users of this platform that this issue is being attended to and is receiving the necessary attention.”
By late Wednesday afternoon Absa confirmed that the system that processes its outgoing international payments is now working normally.
"The vast majority of incoming international payments are being processed normally. It is important to note that all other processing services are functioning as normal," Absa said in a statement.
