Cape Town - BPeSA, the business process outsourcing (BPO) industry association for South Africa, has appointed Tebogo Molapisane as the new CEO following the re-launch of the national organisation.
Tebogo has been involved in the contact centre industry for the past 16 years and is the current director at Kezia Consulting Group, a non-executive director on the BPeSA Western Cape board and an advisory board member at BLDE Consulting.
Prior to this, he was employed as the general manager of operations at Woolworths financial services, which included all contact centre, back office and risk operation (in-house and outsourced credit recoveries) functions.
According to Gareth Pritchard, CEO of BPeSA Western Cape and former interim CEO of BPeSA National, Tebogo is the ideal person for the position.
“He has a huge amount of experience and possesses an array of critical skills which he has managed to hone during his time in the industry. He is the ideal person for the job and I look forward to working alongside him in helping develop the industry in South Africa,” Pritchard.
“I come into this role at an exciting time with South Africa having developed an internationally competitive BPO offering. To get to where we are today has taken a lot of hard work and wouldn’t be possible if it wasn’t for my colleagues who laid the platform before for me," Molapisane.
"I would also like to thank our funders, the Rockefeller Foundation, who have given us a grant of $500,000 to assist in getting the national organisation back up and running. We are very excited to be working alongside the Rockefeller Foundation and are committed to helping them promote the wonderful concept of Impact Sourcing to our industry.”
The national CEO announcement coincides with the appointment of Yogan Naidoo as BPeSA regional coordinator for KwaZulu-Natal. BPeSA is currently in the process of sourcing a similar role in Gauteng.
Naidoo is the current CEO of consulting firm Business Solutions Africa and a previous winner of the Nelson Mandela Scholarship.
“Yogan is an excellent addition to the team, he has a good understanding of the industry and has worked closely with Government to position KwaZulu-Natal as one of the top BPO locations in South Africa,” adds Molapisane.
The BPO/Contact centre industry currently employs over 210 000 people in South Africa. Of this number, the majority of new jobs in recent times have come about through international investment, with the BPO sector growing from approximately 10 000 to over 25 000 jobs over the last five years.
During this time, a number of international brands including Amazon, British Gas, EE, 02, Qantas, Shop Direct and Vodafone and have setup operations in South Africa.
According to Fagri Semaar, interim chairperson of BPeSA National, there is a huge amount of unfilled potential in the South African BPO landscape.
“With the appointment of a new CEO and regional coordinator I am confident that we will see significant growth in 2015 and beyond. We have achieved a lot in recent years despite not having a formal national body in place, with representatives now in Kwa-Zulu Natal, the Western Cape and shortly Gauteng, I can only see the industry going one way and that’s up,” said Semaar.
