Fresh raid on Deutsche Bank

Frankfurt - Prosecutors have again raided Deutsche Bank, Germany's largest bank, over allegations of false statements in a long-running compensation battle.

Both Deutsche Bank and state prosecutors Tuesday confirmed a raid on premises of the Frankfurt-based bank.

The raid was aimed at securing documents relating to court action in the collapse of the Munich-based Kirch media group.

Deutsche Bank was ordered in December 2012 to pay compensation to the heirs of the Kirch estate after the late German media mogul, Leo Kirch, claimed comments made by former Deutsche Bank head Rolf Breuer had helped pave the way for the implosion of his group in 2002.

In addition to Breuer, the focus of the Munich prosecutors' investigation has been on the bank's former chief executive Josef Ackermann.

The prosecutors want to establish whether the ex-managers made false statements during Kirch court action. It was revealed on Monday that investigators had searched the offices of the bank's lawyers earlier this month.

Prosecutors Tuesday said the investigation against Deutsche Bank managers was being broadened extended.
