Johannesburg - FirstRand [JSE:FSR] on Wednesday announced that it has appointed Jabu Khethe CEO of FirstRand Africa.

In this new role Jabu, who was previously the CEO of FNB's African subsidiaries, will take responsibility for the ongoing development of the group's African growth strategy.

Firstrand CEO Sizwe Nxasana said the appointment underlined the group's intention to grow on the rest of the continent.

"Whilst the group's growth strategy is ultimately executed on the ground by our operating franchises, FNB, RMB and WesBank, it has become clear that successful implementation will require a well coordinated approach across our entire group of businesses, " he said.

The role has received regulatory approval.
