PRELIMINARY RESULTS from surveys conducted by Nedbank to
develop a robust Small Business Index
TM reveal that while the
majority of respondents have kept their staff complement constant, a growing
number have increased their numbers from last year, citing “business growth” as
the main reason.An
overwhelming amount (40% of small business owners and decision makers surveyed)
cited referrals as their preferred recruitment method, which supports an
international small business trend that has led to employee referral programmes
and incentives.
Not only is
this a cost- and time-effective process, it can also be successful if referrals
come from existing, strong employees. Good performers are bound to know
like-minded people and will be able to give them realistic expectations of the
role.
Along with making
capital expenditure, increasing headcount is a significant way, small businesses
are growing and contributing to the
economy.
