Johannesburg - Electricity utility Eskom has refuted claims by the Democratic Alliance that Hitachi Systems Africa will supply turbines to its Ingula Power Station.
In a statement released Thursday night, Eskom said: "The Democratic Alliance media release stating that Hitachi Systems Africa will be supplying equipment, including turbines to Ingula Pumped Storage in KwaZulu Natal, is completely untrue."
Eskom said it was German and Japanese companies Voith-Siemens Hydro-Voith-Fuji Hydro, currently known as the Voith Hydro Consortium, that was awarded the contract for the design, supply and installation of the turbines starting in September 2008.
"Eskom's procurement process was fair, equitable, transparent, competitive and cost-effective in line with the Public Finance Management Act requirements and verified by external auditors, Ernst & Young," it said.
