Johannesburg - The Democratic Alliance (DA) has called on Eskom executives and Public Enterprises Minister Alec Erwin to take responsibility for the power crisis.
DA spokesperson on Minerals and Energy, Hendrik Schmidt, said on
Sunday that although the DA welcomed Eskom chief executive Jacob
Maroga's decision to refuse his annual bonus, the party believed there were other executives who must also acknowledge their role in the crisis.
"Eskom's senior management must be held accountable for their hand in the crisis," said Schmidt.
The DA has also been calling for Erwin to admit to his role in the crisis and was mounting pressure on him to resign.
"We will stand by our previous statements and call for his
resignation," said Schmidt.
Schmidt said Eskom should inform the public about how the power
crisis was being managed.
"People need to be informed of why we went from a situation where
there were regular rolling blackouts to the situation now where there are none and why those blackouts may be reinstated.
"We need to know how the crisis is being managed and what exactly is being done to make it better," said Schmidt.
