Johannesburg - In a statement on Sunday, the Democratic Alliance said it was evident that ex-Eskom CEO Jacob Maroga was "not in the correct state of mind" to be running an entity as important as Eskom.

Evidence of this was his lobbying for political support, DA spokesperson Manie van Dyk van Dyk said, welcoming Hogan's resistance to the pressure to reinstate him.

The Sunday Times reported Hogan's criticisms of Maroga for allowing the situation to turn political.

"When one party to a boardroom dispute - essentially a contractual dispute - seeks political support to resolve it, that I find problematic," Hogan told the newspaper.

According to the report, Hogan said Maroga "asked me to use my political influence to overrule the board and reinsert him and I wasn't prepared to do that".

Hogan maintained that Zuma's intervention "stalled" attempts to resolve the crisis.

"This is a very serious indictment of the way in which the ANC leadership has handled the Eskom saga... We are owed an explanation," said Van Dyk.

In parliamentary questions, the DA would ask, among other things, why Maroga was receiving such strong political backing from the ANC's leadership.

"It is clear that his tenure as CEO has been largely a failure," he said.
