Cape Town - A union has threatened industrial action against a Coca Cola bottling company over an employee share scheme.
The Food and Allied Workers' Union (Fawu) said on Monday that it rejected the "unilateral" announcement of the scheme by Coca-Cola Shanduka Beverages, one of five bottlers of Coca-Cola products in South Africa.
Fawu said management had not spoken to the union about the structure and content of the scheme. The union feared the scheme would see a handful of managers getting many more shares than hundreds of low-level earners.
"This is no different to other transactions which were condemned for enriching the few without being broad-based in distribution of benefits to the many," it said.
"If our members agree that we should wage [a] protracted campaign against Shanduka we will certainly do that."
