Circuit City drops Amazon

Richmond - Circuit City Stores, citing growth at its own website, terminated its contract with Amazon.com that allowed the consumer electronics retailer to offer its products and services to Amazon.com's customers.

In a press release on Monday, Circuit City said it's been pleased with customer response to its own website and has chosen to focus on boosting business through its own channel, rather than focus on the "small amount of sales" the relationship with Amazon.com has generated.

A Circuit City spokesperson declined to disclose any sales figures generated from this agreement.

"Circuitcity.com has grown tremendously since August 2001 when the agreement was announced," said Fiona Dias, president of Circuit City Direct in Monday's release.

The redesigned circuitcity.com launched in September 2004 and offers more than one million items, the retailer said.
