Johannesburg - Mineworkers at the Aurora Empowerment Systems' Grootvlei mine on the East Rand are expected to continue protesting on Thursday, the National Union of Mineworkers said.
Spokesperson Lesiba Seshoka said the workers would continue their protest over payments that had not been made following their temporary retrenchment.
"One manager suggested that workers will be paid but that has not happened," he said.
The workers embarked on an illegal strike on March 15.
On Wednesday they became rowdy and threw stones at vehicles. This led to police firing rubber bullets at the scores of protesters to disperse them.
The workers were protesting after the temporary retrenchment of 1 500 out of a total of 2 400 employees for four months.
Seshoka said the workers were not against temporary retrenchments, but were unhappy that they had not been paid for the past two months.
