Johannesburg - Another senior Transnet executive has resigned.
The transport parastatal said on Tuesday evening that Vuyo Kahla, the Group Executive: Office of the Group Chief Executive, will be leaving Transnet from 1 December 2010 to join the private sector.
News of Kahla's resignation follows that of Chris Wells, the acting group chief executive who will leave the group in March next
year.
Kahla joined Transnet in 2004 as Group Executive: Legal and Risk before being promoted to his current position.
He was responsible for group strategy, public policy and economic regulation, group legal services and corporate and public affairs.
Kahla was in charge of government and parliamentary relations and led the introduction of corporate governance and risk
management standards in the company.
Wells said Kahla was a key member of the team that launched the turnaround of Transnet.
"Although losing a professional and a leader of his calibre is always a challenge, it is encouraging that South Africa's leading corporates appreciate the talent groomed and nurtured at Transnet," said Wells.
He said Kahla, who expressed his desire to seek new challenges weeks ago, is leaving a strong and capable team which adequately
covers all his areas of responsibility.
Transnet also said that a process to appoint a chairperson and board for the group is currently underway, and it anticipates that this will be concluded shortly.
"The new Board will then oversee the appointment of a new group chief executive for Transnet," the parastatal said.
