Strike hits food producer

Johannesburg - Some 2 000 workers at the Sasko Grain unit of Pioneer Food Group [JSE:PFG] downed tools on this week, the Food and Allied Workers Union said on Friday, escalating nation-wide strikes in SA.

The workers are demanding a 9% increase in wages across the board while the company is offering 7.25%, the union said.

Sasko Grain manufactures and packs a broad range of grain-based staple foods such as wheaten flour, maize meal, rice, beans, lentils and other dried vegetables.

Some of its brands include White Star super maize meal, Sasko flour, Imbo and Crossbow beans and Spekko and Select rice.
