Bucharest - French food industry group Danone said Monday it had withdrawn some of its dairy products from sale in Romania after a potentially carcinogenic substance was found in milk from one of its suppliers.
Danone also said it had blocked as a precautionary measure 75 tonnes of products destined for the Romanian market that may have been in contact with the contaminated milk.
The milk was contaminated with aflatoxin, which can be found in milk after cows consume feed contaminated by mould and can increase the risk of cancer.
Like much of Europe, Romania has been affected by a food scandal that saw horsemeat discovered in "beef" products on sale in supermarkets.
