Johannesburg - Agricultural services group Afgri [JSE:AFR] announced on
Tuesday that it has appointed Adam Mostert as head of its fertiliser
business.
Chris Venter, CEO of Afgri said, "We are delighted to welcome Adam to Afgri as he
brings with him a vast amount of experience and expertise in the fertiliser
business."
The fertiliser business has been created as a result of the settlement agreement
between Sasol Nitro and the Competition Commission, which was confirmed by
the Competition Tribunal on 20 July 2010.
Pursuant to this settlement agreement Sasol Nitro will exit their retail activities over
the next 12 months.
After this period all liquid and granular fertilisers will be sold on an ex-works basis
from their Secunda plant and not on a delivered basis through Sasol agents,
as is currently the case.
Venter said that due to the strategic location of the Afgri service area around Secunda
and Afgri's wide infrastructure and finance capacity in this region,
"Afgri is perfectly placed to support their farming clients in dealing with
Sasol by supplying advice, finance, and logistics",
Venter said: "In order to ensure our farming clients have access to this service Afgri
is approaching agents to establish a network of specialised fertiliser
marketers throughout the area."
Afgri will still be able to sell a variety of fertiliser brands throughout its retail branch network, but the Sasol opportunity provides great product choice to farmers.
