Cape Town - No criminal charges have been laid at this stage against anyone involved in the R699 a month vehicle scheme, said Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies on Tuesday.
In a written reply to a question from Derrick America, a DA MP, Davies said the National Credit Regulator’s investigation into the scheme had been completed.
“All the stakeholders, including the banks have cooperated and submitted all the information required for the purpose of the investigation,” said Davies.
Asked by America if any criminal charges had been laid “in respect of this investigation” and, if so, who were they, Davies said: “Due to the analysis of the outcome of the investigation that is currently underway, there is no action, including a criminal charge that has been taken against anyone as yet.”
He said since all the information was currently being analysed “the findings will be made available to the public in due course”.
The scheme, which collapsed in July, offered to cut repayments on new vehicles to just R699 a month - if the motorists agreed to carry adverts on their vehicles about the scheme.
The scheme - which at its peak involved the sale of 800 cars a month - was the idea of Albert Venter, owner of Satinsky 128.
