Cape Town – A moment of magic happens every year at the Loeries Creative Week Cape Town when the life of one disadvantaged learner changes forever.
The 2014 recipient of the Creative Future Scholarship will be awarded to one of the top five finalists on 20 September. These final contenders have been selected from applicants throughout the Western Cape.
“Unlike most bursaries, we go to high schools, and actively seek out talented youngsters and bring them into the creative economy,” said Andrew Human, CEO of the Loeries, “transforming their lives and building the creative leaders of the future.”
In 2008, the Loeries initiated the Creative Future Scholarship, with the sole intention to actively invest in South Africa’s future creative professionals. R30 from each Loeries entry is donated to this scholarship. Last year’s winner, Anita Dama from Good Hope Seminary High School, is currently studying full time at the AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town.
Stringent selection process
The selection process involved a review of the portfolios, a written test and a challenging interview with a panel of educators and industry members, including the Loeries CEO and chairman, and lecturers from the AAA School of Advertising, the Vega School of Brand Leadership, and the Red & Yellow School of Logic and Magic.
The Creative Future Scholarship offers learners from disadvantaged backgrounds the opportunity to study at one of the country’s top brand communication schools. It covers fees, study materials, accommodation and travel expenses, and also includes mentorship, internship and employment in the brand communication industry. This year, the scholarship’s recipient will be offered a place at the AAA School of Advertising in Cape Town.
