Collective Insight came about when the asset management community identified a gap in the market for the introduction of an independent, objective investment journal to showcase the best research currently being done on asset management in South Africa.

The objective is to provide a forum through which ideas can be introduced, interrogated and, if necessary, challenged.

Each issue will focus on a specific topic that will cover a range of point/counterpoint papers that tackle various subtopics under each broad theme. For example, the theme for our first issue was: The Economy and Investment Reality – Is there a connection? What is the connection? How can investors best apply these insights?

Each article should help the reader develop a fundamental insight into the underpinning theories, but equally, should help the reader understand the broader debate around these theories. Ideally, there should be a series of point/counterpoints that are reflected in each subset of the broader topic.

As such, provocative, controversial and challenging points are all perfectly acceptable for this forum as we encourage readers to respond. Responses to articles will be further debated in the next issue.

The format aims to be accessible to casual readers and investors who already have significant knowledge about asset management. It should provide a forum through which ideas can be introduced, interrogated and if necessary, challenged.

As such, the journal will expressly control against journalistic re-interpretation of authors’ theses and against marketing puffery that can potentially diminish the value of such a publication.

Collective Insight appears tri-annually (Summer, Autumn, Winter) and is distributed free as a supplement to Finance Week. Interested readers can either access the full content through this website or can request printed back copies from us directly.
