Cape Town - Business people were concerned about the effects of the decision to drop charges against ANC president Jacob Zuma, the Cape Chamber of Commerce said on Tuesday.
"Business is concerned about the situation because a good, transparent legal system is essential for healthy trade relations and economic growth," said chamber president Jeremy Wiley.
"Investors in this country need to know that contracts are respected and that the rule of law will be implemented without fear or favour in an open and transparent way."
He said it was a great pity that the National Prosecuting Authority had decided not to present its case against Zuma and French arms company Thint in open court.
Those proceedings would have been transparent enough to give the outcome the credibility the country needed.
The current outcome would not be accepted as satisfactory by the business and international communities.
"It has certainly not enhanced the reputation of South Africa as a constitutional democracy and a bastion of the rule of law," he said.
