Johannesburg - Unions representing more than 1 million South African state workers have rejected a revised government wage hike offer and will strike on Wednesday.
The unions were demanding an 8.6% wage hike, with a housing allowance increase from the original R500 to R1 000. On August 12 the government tabled an offer, increasing the housing allowance to R700 from R630. The wage increase remained at 7%.
