Johannesburg - South Africa's planned rollout of the R300m traffic violation demerit system, also known as Aarto, will create good business opportunities for IT players.
After Transport Minister Sibusiso Ndebele said earlier this week the department was ready to roll out the demerit system countrywide, the Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) told Fin24.com it was in the process of placing out tenders to get the system in place.
"We're busy working on it [the tenders]," said RTMC CEO Ranthoko Rakgoale. The system is to be launched early in government's 2011 financial year, which starts in March 2010.
Rakgoale said although the estimated costs were R300m, the whole amount wouldn't be up for grabs in the tender process as it also makes provision for communication and marketing, which would be undertaken by the RTMC.
